Capsule of garments made out of used industrial fabrics collected
from Rotterdam harbor- Maasvlakte and surroundings.
All units in this mini collection are designed to withstand the weather conditions
I experienced in this area.
The designs and color way are based on sand dunes from the beaches of the harbor. There was a lot of nature present in the place even though the main area of the harbor was created artificially. I really liked that blend of environments, this was something new and unknown for me therefore I tried to reinterpret this in the collection itself. While collecting samples I was constantly finding fabric like materials in the area such as PVC foil, polyester meshes, Nylon and knitted PE tarps buried under the sand. After I collected them I experimented on all of these fabrics with sewing, heat press and with gluing. Some of the fabrics were unusable and dirty but after cleaning process PVC foil was the one I chose for the final prototypes.
To put the whole collection under one logo I did a research about plants in this environment and choose plant named /in Latin/ Sedum Acre: the most original one to the area that is reflecting all the properties that you can find in the product itself, durability, camouflage, and dynamic shapes.
This project reshaped my process of designing. To this day I use the steps I learned during my experimenting and researching of this area. This was a start of my material library project I am continuing ever since.
